Mimili Maku Arts, Sculpture Co. & Fundere

“Melting Point” , 2025.

In 2025 Sculpture Co directors Cameron McIndoe and Jason Waterhouse spent 3 weeks living and working with the community of Mimili Maku in APY Lands in Central Australia.  This incredible project ‘Melting point’ aimed to empower the men of the community through creating works of art using collected scrap materials.  The project had a particular focus on re contextualising automotive parts into works of art and the collection of aluminium which was melted and recast into sculpture. The sculpture Co team was joined by Canberra Glass Works in week three to expand the project further.

“This project is about empowering our men to tell their story — to be the cutter, the maker, the welder, and the artist. To show their children they’re creating something for themselves and their families… and opening a new path forward.”

“By melting and reshaping these objects, we’re not just transforming material, we’re telling a bigger story. About resilience, about Tjukurpa, about our relationship with land that never ends. It’s a reminder that what seems forgotten can be brought back to life. That art can carry pain, pride, knowledge and possibility all in the same breath.”
